지금의 국내 경기는 확장기(expansion period/phase)를 지나 지금은 수축기(contraction period/phase). 그래서 그런지 많은 회사들이 사업 확대를 자제하고 있는 것 같다(They seem to be restraining themselves from expanding their business).
이렇게 사업 등을 확장하는 것을 동사 expand나 명사 expansion을 써서 표현한다. 이들 단어의 용례를 살펴보자. They are expanding their business to overseas markets(그들은 사업을 해외시장으로 확대하고 있다). Many people are worried that the nation‘s trade deficit with Japan might continue expanding(많은 사람들은 대일 무역 적자가 계속 확대될까봐 걱정하고 있다).
